Design

The design and build quality of the new iPhone 4s is exactly the same as the old iPhone 4. Although the now infamous antenna problems have been resolved with the use of two antenna one for receiving and the other for sending.

Although no update on design, for my money this is still easily one of the best looking and classiest phones out there. With a solid metal case and glass back they feel amazingly solid in your hand.

Screen

Again no update for the screen of the iPhone 4s which may be something of a disappointment to those who where hoping for a larger display from the new iPhone.

Although no update, the screen is still easily the best, and highest resolution available for any smartphone. They both use what apple call’s  the retina display (960×640 pixels). Which basically means text looks incredibly smooth and picture’s and video look bright and vibrant.

Performance

The performance for the iPhone 4s is one are where apple have stepped up their game considerably from the old model. The 4s uses the ipad 2′s A5 processor which is a 1Ghz dual core chip.

This apple tells us means graphics performance up to 7x faster than the iPhone 4, which should make for super speedy app loading times and incredible graphical ability when running 3d games.

They have also upgraded the data download speeds from 10 mbs up to 14.4mbs (where available) which will make for faster web browsing and downloading of songs apps and videos.

Camera

Another major update for the 4s is the camera now 8 megapixel up from the iPhone 4s     5 megapixel. It is also now back illuminated and now able to shoot 1080p full hd video (up from 720p). 

As you can see the pictures from the 4s look amazing and would even rival many stand alone digital cameras, a massive improvement over the iPhone 4.

Extras

Although some voice control has always been available on iPhone’s  it has always been very limited, mainly only being able to call people from your address book.

The iPhone 4S brings a service called Siri that makes voice control a much more usable feature. Asking “do I need an umbrella today?” for example, will result in your phone automatically searching and displaying the latest weather results.

You can also Siri to set reminders, read and reply to texts and much more, all without having to touch the screen. From what I have seen of it so far it seems to work very well.

Verdict: Should I buy I an iPhone 4s?

I would say if you are still using an iPhone 3g/3gs or indeed any other smart phone more than a year old now would be a very good time to upgrade to the 4s. Although some may see the improvements as minimal I think apple have done enough to warrant going for the upgrade.

However if you are still locked into your contract with your iPhone 4 or another fairly new smartphone. I would say wait until next year for the iPhone 5. Which should be a massive leap ahead from both the iPhone 4 and 4s.
